Centre for the treatment of solid waste at Mercabarna

On top of the existing installation for the treatment of solid waste at Mercabarna (Green Point), a project was designed for a cover to protect the waste from solar radiation by adding shade, to collect rainwater, to produce energy, to incorporate vegetation composed of aromatic plants and to light up the whole complex at night.

The project sought to imitate nature: the cover design incorporated the metaphor of a cloud, which as well as providing protection from solar radiation is also able to accumulate water and energy.

The cover was projected to create a photovoltaic field of 135 kW.
