Who we are
The Architecture & Sustainability Research Unit in Barcelona is formed by a multidisciplinary group of Architects, Engineers and Biologists, the majority of whom are professors and lecturers at the UPC. The group has considerable experience in education and research in the field of Architecture and Sustainable Urbanism.
We are experts in Net Zero Energy Buildings
Since the passing of EU Directive 2010/31/EU on the “Energy performance of Buildings”, the group has focused its attention on NZEB (Net Zero Energy Building) buildings. These are “… buildings with a high level of energy efficiency, where the already reduced amount of energy required for their operation must be obtained from renewable sources so that the resulting energy balance is zero…”
Since its creation in 2002, we have undertaken a wide range of applied research projects in the field of Architecture and Sustainable Urbanism.
We provide educational programmes in the third cycle of studies at the UPC: one Master’s Degree course and two postgraduate degree courses.
Via a Start-up, our research unit carries out various projects and provides consultancy services in the fields of environmental design, energy saving and energy efficiency, and the incorporation of renewable energy sources into architectural and urban planning projects.
